In Illinois, parents establish child custody arrangements through their divorce or during a child custody hearing. These determinations are made according to several factors that could apply to the case and establish the most suitable living environment for the child. Child custody lawyers in Oswego, IL provide information about these factors to help parents.

Joint or Sole Custody

Joint custody indicates that each parent is allowed to make choices about and for the child. Each parent will also receive equal time with the child based on where they live. However, if there is any risk of anything, only one parent may receive sole custody of the child.

Supervised Visitation with the Child

Supervised visitation with the child is ordered when a parent is considered a risk to the child. This assignment is ordered after child protective services have been contacted and a home study has been conducted. When supervised visitation is ordered, an officer of the court or a trusted family member must be present at any time the parent is visiting with the child to monitor the situation closely.

Termination of Parental Rights

The termination of parents rights is ordered when a parent has either chosen to give up their rights to the child, or they present a serious risk to them. Typically, the court demands termination when allegations of any form of abuse have been substantiated. A parent can also request termination of their former spouse’s rights if they are incarcerated for a dangerous crime.

Protection Orders Against a Parent

After domestic violence occurs, a victim can petition the court to acquire a protection order. These orders prohibit contact with the victim, which includes but is not limited to phone calls, visits, text messages, and emails. When the victim is the child, the protection orders are extended and child custody is denied.

In Illinois, parents may file a petition for child custody based on their preferences in a divorce case or custody hearing. The court must make a determination about the case based on which parent provides the most suitable home for the child. Parents who have questions about these proceedings should contact child custody lawyers in Oswego, IL through The Cosentino Law Firm LLC today.

11 Reasons Why You’ll Want To Live On A Budget

Find Out More About:

 • Online Loan Agreement
 • Credi

By Debbie Dragon

To some people, budget is a 4-letter word! When used correctly, a budget is a tool that helps you know where you’re going and how you’re getting there financially. As our economy struggles, there has never been a better time to get your finances under control and work with a budget.

Most people have dreams or goals of things they’d like to have, places they’d like to go, bills they’d like to pay off… but the only way to ensure you realize those goals or see your dreams become reality is to have a plan and a way to measure your progress. How else will you know if you’re even moving in the right direction?

Here are 11 reasons why living on a budget makes sense- and how it can actually help you reach those dreams and goals that you’ve set for you and your family:

# A budget ensures there is actually money set aside for savings and investments, instead of ignoring them because you don’t have any money left at the end of the month to save!

# A budget will enable you to see if you are living within your means. Years ago, before credit cards became so commonly used, people would know whether or not they were living within their means because they either had money left over at the end of the month or they didn’t. Now that everyone uses credit cards regularly, it’s much more difficult to see where you stand financially.

# Control your money instead of being controlled by your money.

# Have money available to handle emergencies and unanticipated expenses. Without a budget, most expenses could be considered ‘unexpected’ and since you don’t have the money to pay for them- they severely hurt you financially. A budget anticipates these expenses and you’ll have the money to take care of them as they happen.

# A budget that’s created realistically will result in cash that you can use on things you really want or need- instead of spending it here and there on things you don’t even remember buying at the end of the month.

# Reduce arguments about money with a budget. The budget serves as your guide to finances. If you and your partner are working on the budget together, it will reduce your arguments and allow you to work towards a common goal.

# Reduce stress and sleep better! Having a budget that you actually follow will eliminate unnecessary worrying over money and debt. You’ll know that everything is figured out and as long as you follow the budget you’ve created you’ll be able to make ends meet.

# Budgeting is the best way to find your way out of debt and to prevent falling into excessive debt.

# Having a budget will enable you to see areas that you are overspending so you can eliminate any unnecessary spending to concentrate on reaching your financial goals.

# Involving your children in the family budget planning will help teach them responsible financial habits. They’ll also understand more when you say there isn’t any money to buy every toy they see on the commercials!

# With a budget, you can allocate money for entertainment- which means you’ll know exactly how much you have to spend on the fun things you want to do and can plan for your entertainment activities. Use up the entertainment allowance on small things every week; or save the entertainment allowance for several weeks and splurge on something more costly!

Putin blasts US foreign policy

Saturday, February 10, 2007

Russian President Vladimir Putin heavily criticized the United States in a speech at the 43rd Munich Conference on Security Policy Saturday for what he called its “almost uncontained” use of force in the world.

Putin also criticized US plans for missile defense systems and NATO’s expansion.

Putin said that nations are witnessing an “almost uncontained hyper use of force” in international relations. The Russian President pointed out that only the UN, and not the EU or NATO, can sanction the legitimate use of force. “One state, the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way.”

One state, the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way.

Putin stated that the “excessive use of force” showed a lack of capacity for “complex solutions”.

“This is very dangerous. Nobody feels secure anymore because nobody can hide behind international law,” he said, speaking through a translator. “This is nourishing an arms race with the desire of countries to get nuclear weapons,” he told the 250 officials, including more than 40 defense and foreign ministers.

Speaking about the US missile defense system, possibly to be deployed in Poland and the Czech Republic, he stated that Washington’s reasons for the system weren’t plausible. Even such problem states like North Korea would not be able to build any missile in a foreseeable time necessitating such a defensive measure, the President opined.

Vladimir Putin also stated his doubts about the United States’ willingness to really go ahead with disarmament. He said that Russia was strictly adhering to the agreement to destroy thousands of strategic nuclear weapons until the end of 2012. He also said, he hoped the partner was acting in an equally transparent manner and would not keep a few hundred warheads for “bad times”.

The Munich Conference on Security Policy, founded in 1962, is an international forum composed of more than 250 leading politicians, diplomats, military officials, members of the business community, academics and public figures from more than 40 countries. It has become an annual opportunity for world leaders to discuss the most pressing issues of the day.

Restrictions imposed in China textile trade with U.S.

Saturday, May 21, 2005

In an effort to ease complaints by the U.S. and Europe about a heavy influx of low priced Chinese goods, China will raise export tariffs on 74 categories of textile products in June. This follows plans from the U.S. to impose quotas on Chinese textiles and clothing.

Products likely to see an increase from the Chinese move include synthetic fiber shirts, trousers, knit shirts and blouses, cotton shirts, and combined cotton yarn. Last week, similar restrictions were imposed by the U.S. on cotton trousers, knit shirts, and underwear. Currently, a 2.5 cent charge per item is imposed; the new tariff will raise this to the equivalent of 12 cents per piece now. While this is a fourfold increase, it is not expected to affect consumer prices. Because of this, some doubt the tariff will have any effect on correcting the trade imbalance.

This move is in response to U.S. trade quotas imposed due to concerns that increased Chinese goods would put U.S. textile manufacturers out of business. According to Auggie Tantillo, executive director of the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition, a textile industry group in the U.S., the move will preserve 10,000 U.S. jobs. The new U.S. trade quota will limit the growth of Chinese textile imports to 7.5 percent compared with shipments over the past year.

Prior to January 1, a global quota system helped regulate the trade. With the quota system gone, fears have arisen that a flood of Chinese goods could undercut U.S. competitiveness in the market. China is able to market its goods cheaply due to an artificially weak yuan. The U.S. Treasury criticized the China yuan policy as “highly distortionary”, posing a major risk to China’s economy itself and to global economic growth. They challenged China to revalue its currency to bring it to a level they believe will allow fairer competition between global manufacturers.

China has disputed the charges of the U.S. Treasury. Chinese Commerce Minister Bo Xilai said, “I believe they are not reasonable”.

Laura Jones, a representative of large retailers, also criticized the move, saying “These restrictions on imports from China will do absolutely nothing to help the U.S. textile industry — and the government knows it.”

China has seen a boom in economic growth in recent years due to growing trade surpluses with the West, but economists worry that the trade gap will cause longer term global economic problems. China’s textile and apparel exports are the most noteworthy example, with exports up over 1,000 percent in some categories this year and the rapid loss of marketshare and jobs by U.S. textile manufacturers.

Beginning in 1978, the Chinese economy has been transforming from a Soviet-style centrally planned economy to more of a free market style system, under the rigid political control of Communist Party of China.

To this end, the government has leveraged foreign trade to stimulate economic growth. The result has been a fourfold increase in GDP, making China the sixth largest economy in the world. By 2012 the People’s Republic of China may have the highest GDP in the world.

According to U.S. statistics, from 1999 to 2004 China’s trade surplus with the U.S. doubled to $170 billion. Wal-Mart is China’s seventh largest export partner, just ahead of the United Kingdom.

However, the gains from their “socialist market economy” have not been without problems. The Chinese leadership has often experienced the worst results of socialism and capitalism: bureaucracy, lassitude, corruption, and inflation. Inflation rates have been an on-going challenge, reaching as high as 17% in 1995.

Environmental deterioration is a longer-term threat to economic growth. In 1998, the World Health Organization reported that China had seven of the 10 most-polluted cities on Earth. Another concern among some economists is that China’s economy is over-heating, and due to its global economic expansion this could have major repercussions among other nations.

Typically, wages have been low and working conditions poor, with workers living in restrictive dormitories and working at boring factory jobs. However, recent labor shortages have started improving conditions, and raising the minimum wage towards the equivalent of 100-150 US dollars per month. The labor shortages are in part a result of a demographic trend caused by strict family planning.

New study claims Stonehenge was a place of healing

Thursday, September 25, 2008

Archaeologists Timothy Darvill of Bournemouth University and Geoff Wainwright, President of the Society of Antiquaries, claimed to have found evidence that Stonehenge was once a center of healing. In an excavation conducted at the site, a large number of human remains were found that display signs of physical injury or disease. Study of the teeth from the skeletons indicates that about half of them were from outside the area.

A large number of bluestone or spotted Preseli dolerite chips found during the excavation led the researchers to conclude the stones were venerated for their healing properties. It is believed that about 80 of such bluestone blocks were transported from the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire, Wales to the Salisbury plains. The inner circle of bluestones are the earliest stone structures found in this site. Later bluestones were encircled by the imposing sandstone monoliths of sarsen stones. “It could be that people were flaking off pieces of bluestone, in order to create little bits to take away… as lucky amulets,” said Professor Darvill.

Stonehenge would attract not only people who were unwell, but people who were capable of [healing] them.

Radiocarbon dating indicates that the original bluestone circle was built around 2300 BC. This date coincides with the burial of “Amesbury Archer“, whose tomb was discovered near Stonehenge. The skeleton of this man reveals that he had serious knee injury and tooth problems. Researchers therefore conclude that the Archer came to Stonehenge to be healed.

Dating of charcoal fragments revealed that the site was inhabited as early as 7200 BC by groups of hunter-gatherers. This is more than 3500 years earlier than previously known.

Queensland prisoners put to work manufacturing water tanks

Monday, April 30, 2007

Prisoners in the Australian state of Queensland have been put to work manufacturing rainwater tanks to help meet a shortfall in supply.

The southeast corner of Queensland, which is currently undergoing one of its worst droughts on record, is experiencing a boom in the rainwater tank industry. Households, encouraged by subsidies introduced by the Beattie government, have enthusiastically begun installing rainwater tanks as well as other water-saving devices. These subsidies have led to a shortfall in supply however, with some households waiting months for tanks to be installed.

The new initiative, announced by Premier Peter Beattie as well as Corrective Services minister Judy Spence will see prisoners at Woodford Correctional Centre, Australia’s largest gaol, constructing tanks for AU$4 per day. Spence has pledged not to use the cheap labour to undercut existing tank suppliers. Beattie also pointed out that the programme would give prisoners constructing the tanks valuable work skills for when their sentences are completed. If the programme is successful, it may be extended to other gaols around the state.

The Beattie government has been increasingly criticised over recent months for its failure to handle the water crisis engulfing Southeast Queensland. Opponents accuse the Government of a lack of planning foresight with regards to water supply for the booming area, which includes state capital Brisbane, as well as other cities such as Ipswich, Toowoomba and Gold Coast.
