Alone Vs Lonely

Find Out More About:

 • Victoria House Needlecraft
 • Knitting Yarn Australia Online

By Mary Caprio And Fran Elster

I like being alone — I like spending quality time with myself reading a good book, watching a chick flick, paraffin waxing my hands — doing whatever I feel like doing. I enjoy my own company and I find myself easy to get along with. I look forward to sitting on my chaise, sipping a glass of wine and becoming engrossed in the latest best selling novel.

What I don’t like is feeling lonely, feeling bored with my own company and yearning for the company of others. That’s something that many people experience when they become uncoupled for whatever reason, because they no longer have a familiar person around to fill that space. It doesn’t matter whether or not the relationship was a good one — sometimes people believe that bad company is better than no company. Or maybe you have never been involved in a romantic relationship and you yearn for that connection, that companionship.

Some people don’t relish the idea of spending time alone, even for short periods of time. Even people who are currently satisfied with their friendships and/or romantic relationships are sometimes apprehensive about spending time alone.

Sometimes people make relationship decisions based on their loneliness and this often leads to disaster. It is always better to approach relationships from a position of personal strength and confidence. It is only when you are able to love yourself, to be comfortable with yourself that you can give yourself fully to others. Only then can you engage in fulfilling and healthy relationships.

When it comes to relationships, romantic or otherwise, don’t settle. It is important to honor yourself by choosing to engage in partnerships that enhance your life. They don’t have to last forever in order for you to derive pleasure from them. Remember that people are in your life for a season, a reason or a lifetime.

Here are some reasons why you must give yourself permission to choose your relationships wisely:

Time is a precious commodity. Don’t waste it trying to cultivate unfulfilling relationships

Save your energy for people who are worth it. Why squander it on someone who doesn’t enhance your life?

When it isn’t right for you, it’s time to let it go. Don’t drain yourself on people who are not available to you.

Wasting time with the wrong people leaves you less opportunity to meet the right people.

Listen to those red flags — if something doesn’t sit well with you, move along. Don’t keep dumping your energy into a dead end.

People are always on their very best behavior in the early stage of the relationship. If you aren’t impressed by their best behavior, imagine how it will be once they’ve let their guard down.

Little habits that are mildly irritating in the beginning become hugely annoying once the glow wears off. No one is perfect, but some behaviors are just deal breakers.

Being in a relationship takes work, time and energy. Unless you are willing to devote all three to your social development, don’t get involved. In friendship and romance, always remember the golden rule. It’s a big world out there with lots of really great people who can’t wait to get to know you. Send those good vibes out into the universe….and smile.

Have friends or a “mate”, but still don’t like being alone? Are you wasting away those precious hours doing things that don’t give you enjoyment? Answering these questions might be the first step in helping you find ways to become comfortable with being alone.

1. When I’m alone I feel __________________________________________.

2. I wish I could ______________________________________________ when I’m alone.

3. I’d love to learn to (knit, fly, scuba dive, write a novel) _________________ ___________________________.

4. I never finished _______________________________________________.

Now, look at your answers. Decide on one thing that you will do to bring you comfort. Start reading and researching how you can get started on this wonderful new activity.

If you’re stuck and can’t seem to find what will make you fulfilled, you’re not alone. Your New World Coaching has specialized in helping people find out what makes them happy and helps them take the steps toward achieving that happiness.

Anti-whaling Sea Shepherd crew detained in South Africa

Saturday, January 28, 2006

After seven weeks in the Southern Ocean disrupting the Japanese whaling fleet, a Canadian registered anti-whaling ship, the Farley Mowat, has been detained by South African authorities.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society vessel, its captain Paul Watson, and his crew, have been detained indefinitely. The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) have placed a guard on the gangplank and are patrolling the ship.

The Farley Mowat, which sailed from Melbourne, Australia on December 6, was detained in Cape Town harbour, following a request from the Canadian government. A SAMSA official said the ship did not have the required certification.

“They don’t have the right certificates for the skipper, the first-mate or the chief engineer,” an official said. According to SAMSA, the detention adheres to Canadian maritime laws and followed correspondence from Canada, who requested that the authorities check the ship.

According to Scoop Independent, the ship and crew have been detained due to the International Maritime Organization’s ISPS Code. Under Canadian maritime law, both the captain and first officer should be Canadian nationals. Captain Paul Watson is Canadian, First Officer Alex Cornelissen is Dutch.

SAMSA claims that the Farley Mowat was not in possession of an international ship security certificate or a ship security plan.

This means the ship allegedly does not comply with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) — a comprehensive set of measures to enhance the security of ships and port facilities. The code was developed in response to the perceived maritime threats to ships and port facilities in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the United States.

The official said the detention was in line with Canadian maritime laws and followed correspondence from Canada requesting the authorities check the ship.

However, Captain Paul Watson says political pressure from Japan is behind the detention of the boat. He says he does not have the necessary documentation required by officials as the boat is registered as a yacht and not a commercial vessel.

Designer jewellery – The Perfect Jewellery

The price of gold has more than trebled since 2004 and the price of gemstones has also increased over the same time period.

As you know women are fond about jewellery. An increasing number of women are buying designer jewellery for themselves, according to a survey. Research by International Jewellery London revealed it is likely that more women will continue to buy their own designer jewellery as they are tired of waiting for a loved one to purchase a ring or necklace for them instead.

Detailed info and services about jewellery insurance here

The survey found that women are not afraid to splash out as 58 per cent buy jewellery for themselves, worth up to £100;, at least every six months, while 22 per cent spend between £100 and £500 on a single piece.

Almost 50 per cent of women either see buying designer jewellery as a ‘gift to themselves’, or a dedicated purchase to match a specific outfit or for a special occasion.

Hardly any women buy rings, necklaces or bracelets for long-term profit as only one per cent said that they bought their last piece of designer jewellery for themselves as an investment.

The investigation also discovered that ethical issues surrounding the production and manufacture of jewellery have a large impact on what ornaments and charms people purchase.

Three-quarters of women said that they would be willing to pay more for jewellery which had been ethically sourced as opposed to so-called blood diamonds, which come from war-torn countries and are synonymous with worker exploitation.

For 78 per cent of women the design of jewellery is of paramount importance as up to 65 per cent of females are prepared to spend time online researching a potential jewellery purchase before visiting a store.

International Jewellery London is positive about the designer jewellery market and is expecting more people to invest in charms and trinkets despite the current economic climate.

Fire erupts in parking structure at Sola Airport, Norway

Friday, January 10, 2020

At about 15:30 local time (1430 UTC) on Tuesday a fire was reported in the “Kiss & Fly” section of a parking structure at Stavanger Airport, Sola in Norway. The structure has over 3000 parking spaces; reports said more than half of those were filled. The airport was quickly closed to air traffic.

It was initially reported the fire started in an electric vehicle, but news broadcaster NRK later reported the fire started in a recalled 2005 Opel Zafira. The car was recalled after a similar fire in Cork, Ireland in August last year, causing damage to about 60 cars. Police said they questioned the car’s owner.

The fire produced heavy smoke, and local officials said there was danger the building might collapse. Nils-Erik Haagenrud of Rogaland Fire and Rescue said late on Tuesday no personnel would be sent into the building. Rogaland Fire and Rescue requested support and equipment from other fire departments. The airport and nearby hotel were both evacuated and local police warned people in the general vicinity to stay inside and close exterior vents and windows. Through Tuesday evening the fire was reduced and the order for a fire extinguisher robot from Oslo Fire and Rescue was canceled.

The airport closure also led to Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg being stranded after a visit to the Johan Sverdrup oil field. Solberg posted on Twitter asking for places to eat for the seven hour drive from Stavanger to the capital of Oslo.

Reports as of Wednesday said an estimated two to three hundred vehicles had been damaged or destroyed, but no humans had been hurt.

By about 22:00 local time (2100 UTC) on Tuesday the flames were under control. Local firefighters planned to continue to monitor the situation and work to prevent further damage. It was also discovered the structure was built without sprinklers. Stavanger Airport, Sola was to open on Wednesday morning, but returning to normal service was expected to take longer. Affected travelers were advised to contact their airlines for rebooking.

The Importance of a Well-Designed Menu Board

Restaurant menu boards have evolved from its original purpose. While many dictionaries agree that a menu board is a “bill of fare” or “a list of food items a restaurant prepares and serves”, the purpose of the menu board now has a broader, more comprehensive role. David V. Pavesic, Ph.D, of Restaurantinformer.com insightfully states the five goals of an effective menu boards, within the scope of today’s standards.

Visit melbourne restaurant menus for more information specifically

A well designed menu board should:

be an effective communication, marketing and cost control tool;
emphasize what the customer wants and what the restaurant prepares and serves best;
obtain the necessary check average needed to realize sales goals and bottom line return;
utilize staff and equipment in an efficient manner; and
lead to more accurate forecasting of the menu sales mix.

Clearly, from these five goals, a menu board contains more than just items on a list. They demonstrate the importance of the research and logistics that are needed before a menu board can be produced and installed. Too much depends on a menu board to not give it the attention and budget needed to ensure a spectacular final product. But too much also depends on the menu board to not make it a team effort. Everyone from the owner, management, head chef to potential customer focus groups should be involved in the decision-making process.

Much of the restaurant’s success will depend on the design of their menu board. It needs to be designed from the perspective of the targeted clientele the restaurant wants to attract, without leaving out traditional favorites and creative selections. Whether you choose to fabricate your own menu board or contract the services of a professional menu provider, the restaurant’s profit, cost, and sales goals must be reflected in your menu design.

No one can design a menu board to accomplish these goals successfully unless they understand the process. This means consulting and utilizing the professional services of graphic designers, printers, copywriters, and menu consultants on type fonts, colors, ink types, paper thickness and texture, graphics, photography, and any remaining visual techniques you want to apply to your menu board design.

Skeletons found under home in Hertfordshire

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Catherine McGuigan, a resident in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, UK, found skeletons from over a century ago buried under her dining room.

She had hired builders for an extension for her cottage, where she has lived for eleven years, and at the beginning of April they found human bones in the ground.

Her cottage was built over a burial ground; from 1697 to 1820 the land was owned by the Religious Society of Friends. In the 1600s, members of the society, better known as Quakers, were persecuted for their beliefs and so were not allowed to be buried in consecrated church grounds. Instead burials, which were also sometimes for others not recognised as parishioners – such as homeless people, often took place in the countryside.

The Daily Mail states in its April article that the Religious Society of Friends have advised McGuigan that she “must cremate” the bodies, however Quakers have written an open letter to the Daily Mail, informing that for Quakers, there is “no specific advice on the disposal of bodies”, and that they had never expressed an opinion on how the discovered skeletons should be buried.

The cremation was rumoured to cost up to £32,000 – an £800 quote for cremation of a single body multiplied by 40, however as yet only ten bodies have been discovered.

The builders originally thought the bones were pieces of pipe, and McGuigan has now ordered coffins and is looking to holding a mass cremation or a burial in a nearby field.
