To take good care of teeth, one should not rely upon just brushing. It does not mean that you have to go to some parlour regularly for your teeth but development of certain habits may prove beneficial to avoid accumulation of germs in the oral and dental cavity.

Toothpaste with high concentration of fluoride is very effective to fight against tooth cavities and decadence. As a part of a research and survey, a group of 16 people volunteered for various techniques of tooth brushing. This demonstration was conducted in a university at Gothenburg. The results reveal that brushing twice a day remains as essential as known to people. However, the study revealed that massaging your teeth gently with fluoride containing tooth paste with your fingers is a very healthy habit.

Unlike shaving razors, it is tough to understand the validity and expiry of toothbrushes. Toothbrushes neither have any expiry date mentioned on them nor they have any limited validity period after which the user may know without effort that it has to be replaced. The hardening or softening of the bristles of the toothbrush cannot be taken as a granted method of verification of its effectiveness. Some brushes have hard bristles initially which gradually soften while other brushes have hard bristles which do not soften at all. Some expensive brushes have very soft and smooth bristles which not even wear after months of use. These points clearly indicate that the hardness or softness and smoothness or roughness of bristles of toothbrushes is not a foolproof method to decide when a toothbrush has to be replaced with a new one.

Dr. Nigel Carter, a renowned dentist of the Great Britain, suggests that toothbrushes should be replaced after every 3 months of usage. According to Dr. Carter, the replacement of the toothbrush is irrespective of the quality of it. Even if the toothbrush may seem fine to the users, harmful germs and micro-organisms develop on the surfaces of bristles of the toothbrushes after certain period. The germs mentioned here may not only be harmful to your teeth but also to your body too.

Therefore, the suggestion of

Dr. Carter rather than spending on toothbrushes at an interval of 3 months is better than to attract serious dental diseases. Small amounts spent thrice or four times a year may help to save fortunes through the prevention of severe dental diseases.
